About Me

A self-portrait.

Hi! I'm xylo (he/they), interested in Systems/AI and government/history.

I like to make music, draw illustrations, and find new places to explore (online and offline).

A fan of books, anime, and movies, I love finding new sources of inspiration for daydreaming and imagining.

I am terminally online (think vtubers, hyperpop/dariacore, Vocaloid, VRChat, etc...)!

Currently starting Anti-Oedipus by Deleuze and Guattari, recently finished reading Yuukoku (Patriotism) by Mishima Yukio.

AI-generated image of Sairo.

Currently, I'm working on Sairo, a virtual character. A PC98-style visual novel featuring Sairo is under development.

Projects

GIF of Xylo(virtual character) talking.

This is Sairo(沙彩), an autonomous AI vtuber! I drew, animated, and programmed her myself. Aside from streaming, I'm planning to make a game around her, touching on Jean Baudrillard's theories on social reality.

GIF of Hatsune Miku projected as a hologram in a small box.

I'm a big fan of Vocaloid, in particular Hatsune Miku! I made this little contraption so I could project her as a hologram, just like her concerts do.

GIF of Xylo(virtual character) dancing.

I also have extensive experience working in Japanese-English translation, in various media formats.

Serial Experiments Lain (1998)

A great series which predicted the schizophrenic, disconnected identity of people in the digital age! This show explores social/virtual reality, online communities, and collective consciousness, all before social media existed. If you enjoy this, you'll probably also enjoy Memories (Magnetic Rose) and Simulacra and Simulation.

Shelter (2016)

I love how this short animation manages to distill the essence of the Sekai-kei narrative genre, which juxtaposes a single relationship with the fate of the world, into a six-minute video. If you like this, you'll probably enjoy Hoshi Wo Ou Kodomo and Saishuu Heiki Kanojo.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983)

Set in a Japanese WWII POW camp, this film explores suffering and love between men and the universality of humanity across cultual divides. This film captures a deeper, fundamental face of the human spirit. If you enjoy this film, you'll likely enjoy The Last Emperor and Ikiru.
